Message from Siobhan Wyper, Head of Preparatory School
It has been another busy week across the whole College, filled with opportunities for pupils of all ages to learn, grow and thrive. From our youngest pupils beginning their journey on the Pelican Pathway, to our older pupils representing the College in sports fixtures, there has been a wonderful sense of community and shared purpose throughout.
The Pelican Pathway, newly introduced to our youngest pupils, is already helping to nurture important values such as perseverance, enthusiasm and knowledge. These values will serve as guiding principles as pupils move through the College, underpinning not only their academic learning but also their personal growth and character development.
Our sports programme has been in full flow, with fixtures that continue to showcase the determination, teamwork and ambition of our pupils. It is always a pleasure to see them supporting one another, celebrating success and learning from challenges.
Despite the very wet weather this week, pupils have shown adaptability and positivity, and we are all hopeful for a drier spell over the weekend. Classrooms have been buzzing with fantastic learning, with creativity, curiosity and critical thinking on display in every part of the College.
A gentle reminder to all families: please revisit the uniform guidance in the Parents A to Z. Upholding high standards in appearance is an important part of the pride and respect we hold for ourselves, one another and our College.
Thank you, as always, for your support in helping our pupils to flourish. We wish all families a restful weekend with, hopefully, some sunshine.
With best wishes,
Siobhan

Year 8 Residential Trip Parent Workshop
Year 9 & 10 Residential Trip Parent Workshop
On Tuesday, parents were welcomed to a presentation led by Ms Turle about the exciting upcoming Year 9 and 10 residential trip to Kanchanaburi. The session offered an overview of the trip’s itinerary, aims, and expected learning outcomes, highlighting how the experience will combine adventure, teamwork, and outdoor education in a meaningful and engaging way.
A standout feature of the trip will be Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) – an exciting activity that will help pupils develop new skills, boost confidence, and strengthen coordination and resilience as they explore the scenic waterways of Kanchanaburi. As with all of our trips, there is strong emphasis on safety and supervision, with all activities led by qualified professionals from our residential provider, SUP Kanchanaburi and fully supported by Brighton College staff. In addition to SUP, the trip will include a wide range of activities designed to nurture teamwork, leadership, and independence, while also offering our pupils the chance to engage with the natural beauty and historical importance of the region.
We would like to thank all the parents who attended the session. For those who were unable to join us, a copy of the presentation and key information will be shared via email shortly. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Turle directly.
Our Bright Start programme has begun!
Brighton Beats had our youngest pupils jiggling with colourful scarves, singing action songs, and moving to the beat while building confidence and coordination. Brighton Explorers took children outside to splash in water, dig in sand, and collect natural treasures, encouraging curiosity and imagination through hands-on nature exploration. Brighton Tumblers launched in our Prep Sports Hall with pupils testing their balance through obstacle courses, climbing, and crawling activities designed to strengthen motor skills and encourage teamwork.

Introduction to Key Stage 5 Parent Workshop
On Thursday our Assistant Head - Sixth Form, Mrs Peat, and our Director of Futures, Mr Jennings hosted a parent workshop on the KS5 curriculum. This covered the worldwide recognition of the rigorous A Level qualification, our PSHE and Critical Thinking curriculum, as well as our university guidance and support in the Sixth Form. The event was well attended and was a great way for parents to learn about how we support our pupils to leave Brighton College Bangkok as truly global citizens.
Well done to all our prep pupils who received certificates, performed and were nominated as Stars of the Week!
In this week's Senior Assembly, Mr Gilberthorpe spoke about the importance of high standards in order to create a sense of belonging within the Brighton College community. Taking examples from higher level sport and especially that of, Kobe Bryant and the USA Basketball Dream Team, we learned how by taking action as individuals we can help improve the standards of everyone! A great message at the start of the year!
Thank you to Parwit who performed on stage today and congratulations to Aly for receiving the Going the Extra Mile award. We also heard about what pupil band, Clover, had been up to over the summer to raise money for the refugee crisis on the Thai-Cambodian border.

Football
It has been another good week for our footballers as they prepare for the start of their GBAC season over the next few weeks. This week our U15s, U13s and U11s played in friendly matches against Patana. Well done to all the players who took part and special mention to Tatar, Molly S, and Proon who were named as Player of the Match for their teams.
Basketball
Well done to our U15 basketball players who started their GBAC campaigns this week with games against GIS. Both teams played well throughout and special well done to Au and Ping Ping P who received the Player of the Match nominations for their performances on the court.
Pupil Successes
Well done to Bene (Year 8) who has been working hard on her horse riding over the break. Bene competed in the President’s Dressage Cup in July and the Thailand Dressage Championship in August. She did exceptionally well and won trophies and ribbons in both events! Well done, Bene!
Well done also to Kat and Eeva Cooper, who last weekend competed in a trail running event at the Koh Larn Run for Kids 2025. Both girls worked really hard on this tough course and completed it in good times, a special well done to Kat who finished 3rd in her age bracket!
We have now launched our Player of the Week feature this year. This is to celebrate two players each week who have shown all the values we look for in our athletes. These players are celebrated in assembly and awarded house points for their nomination. This week our players of the week are:
Au (Year 9)
Au was nominated by Coach Walker for outstanding basketball performance this week, controlling the pace of the game well and showing a continued level of excellent sportsmanship throughout.
Molly (Year 8)
Molly was nominated by Coach Smart for showing great tenacity in defence and an outstandingly positive attitude throughout a really tough game.
New Sports Kit
Please make sure you have ordered your child’s new football and basketball kit from INUS. All players must compete in the new kit, the previous kit can be worn for CCAs. There is a very limited number of spare kits to lend out. If we run out, your child may miss out on playing that day. Please note; players wanting to wear t-shirts under their basketball jersey must purchase the correct colour training jersey. Other colour under-shirts will not be permitted.
Coming up next week
Good luck to our U9A boys football team who compete at STA in the Flames tournament this weekend. There is more football next week with the U9s on Monday and U11s next Friday. There is also more basketball next week with the senior teams competing in GBAC matches and the return of the netball programme with the U18s playing SHR on Monday. Next week is also National Fitness Day, where our prep pupils will be taking part in a series of fitness challenges in their houses!
Weekly Futures & Sixth Form Updates!
Why meeting visiting universities matters – upcoming opportunities
University visits are valuable for all pupils—whatever their current plans. Even a short conversation helps them to:
-
Discover new courses and pathways
-
Understand what strengthens applications
-
Pick up practical insights on scholarships, visas, accommodation and student life
-
Practice confident questioning and networking
We have three opportunities next week to benefit from these:
-
Mon 15 Sept 3:00pm: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) presenting in C-FIT — all Brighton College pupils and parents are welcome.
-
Tue 16 Sept: Sixth Form visit to the Bangkok University fair (200+ universities worldwide will be present).
-
Wed 17 Sept: 6:00-8:00pm: An Evening with UK Universities (30+ universities) on site here, for a university fair and panel discussion.Brighton College Parents and pupis invited to register for the event using this form, registration closes on Monday 15th.
Dinner at the UK Ambassador's Residence
Brighton College Bangkok representatives were honoured to attend an evening hosted by the British Ambassador at the residence, recognising and thanking supporters of British Embassy events. Many thanks to HM Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding OBE for his warm hospitality. Brighton College Bangkok is proud to be a strong supporter of British Embassy initiatives and to continue strengthening the close ties between the UK and Thailand.
Biology & Medicine Competition at Thammasat University
Three of our Year 12 pupils gave up their weekend for an incredible experience at the annual Biology and Medicine Competition at Thammasat University. After tackling the first round of the competition in the morning, they jumped straight into some unforgettable hands-on sessions. The most dramatic was a pathology workshop, where they witnessed an autopsy for the very first time. Once the initial shock passed, they were fascinated to learn about the work that goes on inside a pathology lab. They also tried their hand at histology, experimenting with stains and tissue preparation, before wrapping up with a session on communicable diseases and how they are managed in real-life clinical settings. It was a challenging but inspiring day that brought science to life in the most memorable way.

Oscar (Year 7) was selected by the Department of Children and Youth, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, as one of only four Thai youth delegates to join the CISV camp in Germany this past July. Over one month, he proudly showcased Thai culture and exchanged traditions with participants from 12 other countries. Well done, Oscar!
CISV (Children’s International Summer Villages) is a global, non-political, non-religious organization with nearly 70 national associations. Its mission is to inspire and educate young people to build a more just and peaceful world, focusing on human rights, diversity, and sustainability—encouraging every participant to grow as an active global citizen.

Dion (Year 5) participated in the ASMOPSS Thailand 2025 examination in August during the school holidays. Dion was awarded the Gold Medal for English and the Silver Medal for Mathematics.
For achieving the Gold Medal in English, Dion managed to score among the top 1% of total participants across the country, and the Silver Medal in Mathematics among the top 2%. Well done, Dion!
As children grow more confident online, it’s important that we, as adults, stay aware of the different parts of the internet they may come across. While most of us are familiar with the everyday “surface web” we use for browsing, shopping, and connecting with others, there are other layers known as the Deep Web and the Dark Web.
-
The Deep Web contains pages not indexed by search engines (for example, private databases or password-protected sites).
-
The Dark Web, however, is a hidden part of the internet that requires special software (such as TOR) to access. It is unregulated, which means it is often linked with inappropriate or illegal content.
Children and young people may be curious about these areas, sometimes drawn by the “mystery” surrounding them. However, unmonitored access can expose them to inappropriate content, unsafe communities, or even online predators.
We encourage you to:
-
Talk openly with your child about the risks and realities of the Dark Web.
-
Keep an eye out for unusual browsers such as TOR installed on devices.
-
Reassure your child that everything they need online can be accessed safely through normal web browsers.
By staying alert and maintaining honest conversations, we can help keep our children safe as they navigate the online world.
Brighton College Bangkok is thrilled to invite prospective families to our first Open House of the academic year! Be the first to take a tour around our new Sixth Form Centre and view the developments to our new Senior School building.
